The Marist Mission in East Asia
Rooted in the charism of St. Marcellin Champagnat, the Marist Brothers of East Asia have been transforming lives through integral, faith-based education for over a century — making Jesus known and loved through schools, mission communities, and pastoral service across the Asia-Pacific region.
"Touch the hearts of
young people and you
change the world."
— ST. MARCELLIN CHAMPAGNAT
Education as Mission
The Marist Brothers define education not merely as schooling, but as an act of faith — a lived encounter with the Gospel that forms the whole person in virtue, knowledge, and compassion.
Faith Formation
Every Marist school is a community of faith. Students encounter Christ through liturgy, service projects, religious instruction, and the lived witness of dedicated brothers and lay educators.
See MoreAcademic Excellence
From primary schools to universities, Marist institutions uphold rigorous academic standards while nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning inspired by Mary's example.
See MoreSolidarity with the Poor
Following Champagnat's option for the poor, Marist schools prioritize access for marginalized youth, running scholarship programs, evening schools, and community outreach initiatives across all sectors.
See MoreYouth Accompaniment
Beyond academics, Marist educators walk alongside young people in their personal, spiritual, and vocational journeys — embodying the maternal spirit of Mary through pastoral care and mentorship.
See MoreEcology & Integral Care
Inspired by Laudato Si', Marist schools integrate ecological literacy into their curriculum — forming students as responsible stewards of creation for tomorrow's world.
See MoreLay Collaboration
Today's Marist school thrives through the partnership of Brothers and laypersons sharing a common charism. Lay Marists, parents, alumni, and volunteers co-create a vibrant Marist educational community.
See More"The Marist school is a community of Gospel values where young people grow in wisdom, age, and grace — nurtured by educators who see in every child the face of Christ."

Three Sectors, One Mission
The East Asia Province is organized into three geographical sectors, each bringing the Marist charism to life within its unique cultural and ecclesial context.
China Sector Schools
Hong Kong · Malaysia · Singapore
The China Sector represents the Marist Brothers' century-long presence in the Chinese-speaking world and Southeast Asia. Rooted in Hong Kong since the early 20th century, the sector continues the Marist mission through quality Catholic schooling and pastoral service.
St. Francis Xavier's College
Located in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong — one of the region's flagship Marist secondary schools serving thousands of students with rigorous Catholic education since 1931.
St. Francis Xavier's School
A primary feeder school in Hong Kong continuing the Marist tradition of nurturing young learners in a safe, faith-filled environment from their earliest years of schooling.
Malaysia & Singapore Communities
Marist Brothers serve in schools and communities across Penang and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Singapore, extending the charism into multicultural Southeast Asian societies.
"In Hong Kong and throughout Southeast Asia, the Marist Brothers have been pioneers of Catholic education — forming generations of leaders shaped by Gospel values."
The Marist Brothers operate in 79 countries across 5 continents — one of the Catholic Church's largest educational congregations, united by the charism of Marcellin Champagnat.
Marist Global Mission
Founded in 1817 in La Valla, France, by St. Marcellin Champagnat, the Congregation of the Marist Brothers was born with a single, urgent mission: to make Jesus known and loved among the poor and uneducated youth of rural France. That same fire now burns on every continent.
The Marist Brothers' global mission is animated by the Champagnat Global vision — a worldwide family committed to transforming lives, promoting justice, and educating the whole person. In East Asia, this mission finds expression in schools, non-formal education centers, formation houses, and community missions reaching some of the most vulnerable populations in the region.
Option for the Poor & Vulnerable
Marist Brothers preferentially serve the marginalized — from displaced refugees to impoverished rural communities — in fidelity to Champagnat's founding vision.
Evangelization through Education
Schools are not merely academic institutions but instruments of the New Evangelization — spaces where young people encounter the living Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Marian Spirituality
As Marists, the Brothers live and minister under Mary's maternal guidance — modeling the simplicity, humility, and loving care she showed in nurturing the infant Jesus.
