A Day of Reflection on Marist Lay Vocation
(Philippine Sector, East Asia Province)

Forty Two (42) lay people responded to the invitation to come together and reflect on the vocation of the Marist laity as God’s gift. The convening of the group last March 26, 2018 at the East Asia Marist Province Center was meant to be a time for sharing life stories on personal Marist encounters and nurturing the Marist lay vocational path.

Br. Lindley H. Sionosa, FMS, Vice Provincial, LAITY GATHERING welcomed the group and spoke of encouraging words to the participants. The presence of brothers in the gathering communicated an affirming message that resonates well with the Chapter’s principle on being Champagnat Marists today: “For a new beginning, we believe that we are all co-responsible for Marist life and mission.”

The inclusion of the laity in the General Chapters’ documents through the years was presented by Ms. Elma Rafil. Following her sharing was the presentation on the Champagnat Movement of the Marist Family, the process for its revitalization, and the encouragement to welcome those who wish to join the movement.

It was inspiring to hear participants affirm their experience was enriching. Speaking on behalf of the participants from the corporate sector, Mr. Danny Sabino, Manager of Churner Group of Companies, expressed his hope that Champagnat Movement will also be organized for those who are not working in Marist schools. It is nurturing the gift of the Marist wherever lay people are, and opening opportunities of sharing with others the upheld values of St. Marcellin.
